De Niro Speaks Out Against Trump
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has sharply criticized Donald Trump, predicting that he “will never leave” office. At a counter-State of the Union event called State of the Swamp, De Niro described the country as being run by “a handful of dishonest and greedy and cruel authoritarians” and expressed feeling “betrayed by my country.” He urged Americans to restore the nation to the values that give it strength and humanity.
Trump Fires Back on Social Media
Following his State of the Union address, Trump posted on Truth Social targeting De Niro and Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, calling them “lunatics” and suggesting deportation. He described De Niro as “deranged” and “seriously CRIMINAL,” comparing him unfavorably to Rosie O’Donnell, whose citizenship Trump had previously threatened to revoke despite Supreme Court protections.
Public Opinion Reflects Growing Concern
Recent polls show that many Americans view Trump as increasingly erratic. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found 61 percent believe he has “become erratic with age,” including 89 percent of Democrats and 64 percent of independents. Another poll indicated that 79 percent think US political leaders are too old to represent most Americans, with average ages of 64 in the Senate and 58 in the House. Meanwhile, a Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll revealed only 39 percent approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency, though White House officials dismissed the findings as “fake and desperate narratives.”
