A biopic about rap legend Snoop Dogg is officially in the works, with Universal Pictures taking the lead on the project.
The film will explore the life and career of Snoop Dogg, one of hip-hop’s most influential and recognizable figures. Known for hits like Gin and Juice and Drop It Like It’s Hot, Snoop has built a legacy that spans music, business, and pop culture.
Craig Brewer, best known for directing Hustle & Flow and Dolemite Is My Name, will direct the movie. The screenplay is being written by Joe Robert Cole, who co-wrote Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Adding authenticity to the project, Snoop Dogg himself will produce the film, ensuring that his story is told with accuracy and his signature style. “I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right team to bring my story to life,” Snoop said in an earlier statement.
Universal Pictures has a strong history of successful music biopics, including Straight Outta Compton, which chronicled the rise of N.W.A and was both a critical and commercial hit. The Snoop Dogg biopic is expected to follow a similar path, charting his rise from Long Beach, California, to global superstardom.
While no release date has been announced yet, anticipation for the project is already high among fans. With a powerhouse creative team and Snoop’s own involvement, the film is set to be one of the most anticipated music biopics in years.
