NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the alliance will strengthen Ukraine’s military and secure commitments from the US and Europe. He called NATO’s support “unwavering” and “growing” during a visit to Kyiv. Rutte added NATO will fund a steady flow of lethal US weapons to Ukraine.
Rutte confirmed US President Donald Trump pledged America’s involvement in security guarantees. He emphasized that Europe, the US, and Ukraine will ensure the measures deter any future Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy Highlights Need for Strong Guarantees
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine requires guarantees so citizens and future generations remain safe from Russian attacks. He stressed foreign troops, intelligence, and naval or air support remain under discussion, with details yet to be finalized. Zelenskyy called the guarantees essential “against an aggressor” and urged allies to solidify them quickly.
Summit Efforts Stall Amid Kremlin Resistance
Donald Trump proposed a Ukraine-Russia summit after meetings in Alaska and Washington, but Moscow blocked progress. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Putin will meet Zelenskyy only once the agenda is ready, adding the Kremlin sees no immediate summit.
At a joint press conference, Zelenskyy accused Russia of blocking leadership talks to end the war. He called for stronger sanctions to force Moscow into diplomacy and said allies must ensure Russia adopts a productive stance. “Everything must be done so Russia cannot avoid the meeting,” he said.
