The UK imposed sanctions on Russian media outlets and ideological groups, warning that Western nations must counter information warfare from hostile states.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper sanctioned the Telegram channel Rybar, the Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad, and the Centre for Geopolitical Expertise linked to Russia’s GRU.
She also sanctioned two China-based companies for extensive cyberattacks targeting the UK and its allies.
Cooper Warns of Escalating Hybrid Threats
Cooper told the Foreign Office that Britain and its allies face hybrid threats that aim to damage infrastructure, disrupt democracies, and weaken national interests.
She called these operations Russian information warfare and stressed that the UK is actively defending itself.
Cooper highlighted physical attacks, sabotage, and social media disinformation campaigns using AI-generated and manipulated videos to erode Western support for Ukraine’s resistance.
Officials noted the repeated use of Moldova election deception and false Zelenskyy videos as current examples of targeted manipulation.
International Cooperation Remains Critical
Cooper marked the 100th anniversary of the Locarno Treaties, emphasizing global collaboration to maintain peace and security in Europe.
She warned that US President Donald Trump’s disruption of alliances could weaken NATO and strain Western unity.
Cooper met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and confirmed that Washington clearly reaffirmed America’s commitment to NATO.
