Three people were found dead inside a home in Elizabeth after deputies responded to a welfare check request, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities identified the victims as 36-year-old Brett Dixon, 54-year-old Melissa Cochran Dixon, and 61-year-old Paul Dixon. Sheriff Nick Smith said deputies arrived at the residence on Greenbrier Road SE around 7:26 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a request from Ray Dixon, who lives in Mississippi. Officials said Ray became concerned after his brother Paul reportedly expressed suicidal thoughts earlier that day.

When officers arrived at the property, they found Brett Dixon dead on the front porch. Melissa Cochran Dixon and Paul Dixon were later discovered inside the home. Investigators from the Harrison County Coroner’s Office and local detectives launched a preliminary investigation soon after the discovery. According to authorities, Brett Dixon suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and head, while Melissa Cochran Dixon sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. Officials also said Paul Dixon died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office stated that evidence collected at the scene indicates the same individual responsible for the shootings also died at the residence. Authorities added that there is no threat to the public and no suspect remains at large. Officials described the incident as a tragic loss and said no additional details would be released while the investigation remains active.

Neighbors said the news deeply shocked the small community. Resident Ramanda Archibald told local media that her niece went to school with Brett Dixon and described the neighborhood as a close-knit area where everyone knew each other. Another resident, Robert Hasty, remembered Brett as a kind person who was always willing to help others. He said Brett regularly greeted neighbors with a smile and was well respected in the community.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities said updates may be released once more confirmed information becomes available. Community members have continued expressing sympathy and support for the victims’ family and friends as the investigation moves forward.
