Under the leadership of Garrick Ohlsson, the jury of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition selected 11 pianists for the grand final in Warsaw. Poland’s Piotr Alexewicz carries the nation’s hopes as the sole home finalist.

The global classical community now celebrates the reveal of the elite finalists, chosen from hundreds of young musicians. Alexewicz’s inclusion marks a proud moment for Poland in one of the world’s most demanding and revered music competitions.

Founded in 1927, the Chopin Piano Competition remains a cornerstone of international piano artistry. Since its origin, the event has required participants to perform only Fryderyk Chopin’s compositions, preserving the master’s musical legacy through every generation.

Global Talent Unites for the Final Stage

Alongside Alexewicz, the finalists include Kevin Chen (Canada), David Khrikuli (Georgia), Shiori Kuwahara (Japan), Tianyou Li (China), Eric Lu (United States), Tianyao Lyu (China), Vincent Ong (Malaysia), Miyu Shindo (Japan), Zitong Wang (China), and William Yang (United States).

Each competitor will open with Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61, before performing a piano concerto — either in E minor, Op. 11, or F minor, Op. 21 — accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrzej Boreyka’s direction.

The final auditions will take place between October 18 and 20, with evening performances beginning at 6 p.m.

Prestigious Prize Awaits the Next Great Pianist

The champion of the 19th edition will earn a €60,000 award and a gold medal, symbolizing international recognition at the highest level of piano performance.

As the finalists prepare for their last performances, Warsaw readies itself for three nights of artistic brilliance — a celebration of skill, emotion, and the timeless genius of Fryderyk Chopin.

The competition’s conclusion will determine not just a winner but a new standard for excellence in classical piano.
