Ruben Amorim hit out at his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they let victory slip away in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Tottenham.
United led for most of the game through Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike, but were pegged back by second-half goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison before Matthijs de Ligt salvaged a point with a 96th-minute header.
Despite extending their unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was unimpressed with his side’s mentality. “We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” he said. “We felt too comfortable. One play can change everything — we need to do better because the game was there to take.”
There was also concern over a potential knee injury for substitute Benjamin Šeško, with Amorim confirming: “We think he has a problem but let’s see.”
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank defended his late substitutions after being booed for replacing Xavi Simons with Tel, who went on to equalise. “Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “But every decision I make is to try to win the game — and Tel did well.”
Spurs remain without a home league win since 16 August, but Frank was encouraged by his side’s comeback. “We’re so close to winning it — overall, a good performance against a strong Manchester United team.”
