Six people were injured in a Penn Station stabbing attack in New York City on Sunday evening, according to local authorities. The incident took place at one of the busiest transport hubs in the United States, raising concern among commuters and officials.

Emergency services said they received a call shortly after 7 p.m. reporting that multiple people had been stabbed at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. Police and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and secured the area.

The New York City Fire Department confirmed that six people were hurt in the attack. One victim suffered serious injuries, while the others had minor to moderate wounds. All injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Officials said five victims were treated at Bellevue Hospital, while one person with a minor injury was taken to Cornell Hospital. Medical staff reported that all patients were in stable condition following the Penn Station stabbing attack.

An Amtrak spokesperson confirmed that a knife was recovered at the scene. The spokesperson also said that five people were slashed during the incident. Authorities later confirmed that train services were not affected and continued to operate normally.

Law enforcement officials said a suspect was taken into custody at the scene. Early reports suggest the individual may be experiencing mental health issues. Police also stated that there are no initial signs linking the Penn Station stabbing attack to terrorism.

Security personnel and transit police responded quickly, helping to prevent further harm. Witnesses reported a fast emergency response as officers secured the crowded station area and guided passengers away from danger.

New York officials reacted to the incident with concern and support for the victims. City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he had been briefed on the situation and praised Amtrak police for their quick action. He expressed sympathy for those injured and wished them a full recovery.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul also condemned the attack. She described it as a horrific act of violence and said her thoughts were with the victims and their families. She emphasized the importance of public safety in all parts of the city.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to understand what led to the Penn Station stabbing attack. Police are reviewing evidence, witness statements, and security footage from the station.

Penn Station is one of the busiest rail terminals in the United States, serving thousands of passengers daily. Incidents at such locations often raise concerns about public safety and emergency readiness in high traffic transport hubs.

Officials said the quick response by emergency teams helped prevent the situation from becoming worse. They also stressed that there is currently no disruption to train operations, and services remain fully active.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the suspect’s background and mental health history. They are also working to determine how the attacker managed to carry a weapon into the station.

Security at major transit hubs like Penn Station has been a long standing concern for authorities. Officials regularly review safety procedures to protect passengers in busy urban environments.

The Penn Station stabbing attack has once again highlighted the challenges faced by large cities in maintaining safety in crowded public spaces. Authorities said they will continue to strengthen security measures and improve emergency response systems.

As the investigation continues, officials are urging the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity. They said community awareness plays an important role in preventing future incidents.

All injured victims are expected to recover, according to early medical updates, while police continue to piece together the events that led to the attack.
