Manchester City made a major Premier League title statement with a 3-0 win over Liverpool, closing the gap to leaders Arsenal to four points.

After Erling Haaland missed an early penalty, the Norwegian made amends with his 19th goal of the season before Nico González doubled City’s lead via a deflection off Virgil van Dijk.

Jérémy Doku tormented Liverpool throughout and sealed the result with a stunning curling strike for 3-0, capping a dazzling display.

Liverpool saw a potential equaliser from Van Dijk ruled out for offside by VAR but were outclassed overall, suffering their fourth straight away league defeat.

Pep Guardiola, managing his 1,000th game, praised City’s “intensity and control,” while the result reinforced their determination to stay firmly in the title race.
