The United States has renewed its call for the release of political prisoners in Cuba after Cuban dissident and artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara arrived in the United States following five years in prison.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the development in a post on X late Saturday. He confirmed that Otero Alcántara had arrived in Miami and urged Cuban authorities to immediately release more than 700 people whom the United States considers political prisoners.
Rubio also called on the international community to speak out against what he described as human rights violations in Cuba. He said the United States continues to support the Cuban people’s efforts to achieve greater freedom and respect for human rights.
