Former US President Joe Biden is facing a serious health setback after his son, Hunter Biden, said his cancer has spread to his bones and other parts of his body.
Hunter Biden shared the update during a wide-ranging interview with BBC News on Friday. He became emotional while talking about his father’s health.
Hunter said the cancer first found in Biden’s prostate has now spread to his bones and beyond. He said the illness has caused his father a great deal of pain.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter said.
He also said the disease has limited Biden in many ways. His comments offered a new and personal look at the former president’s health.
Biden is 83. He was the oldest person to serve as US president. His age and health were major issues during his time in office.
Concerns about Biden’s health became stronger during the 2024 presidential race. Many voters and political figures questioned whether he was fit to serve another term.
Those concerns grew after his debate with Donald Trump. Biden’s performance led to fresh questions about his age and ability to continue his campaign.
Biden later ended his campaign for a second term. Trump went on to win the election.
Biden announced his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025. His office said doctors found the cancer after he developed urinary symptoms.
The cancer had a Gleason score of 9, according to his office. The score placed the disease in Grade Group 5. This is the highest risk group for prostate cancer.
The diagnosis came less than four months after Biden left the White House.
Since then, Biden has received treatment for the disease. His care has included radiation treatment for prostate cancer.
In September 2025, Biden also underwent surgery for skin cancer. Doctors removed thin layers of skin from the affected area. They continued until only cancer free tissue remained.
In October 2025, Biden’s office said he had completed a round of radiation therapy. The treatment was part of his care for aggressive prostate cancer.
Hunter’s latest comments are the clearest recent public update on Biden’s condition. They also show how deeply the illness has affected the Biden family.
Former first lady Jill Biden has also spoken about her husband’s diagnosis.
In an interview in May, Jill said the family was shocked when they learned that Joe Biden had cancer. She said she still remembered the moment clearly.
Jill also said the cancer was not found while Biden was in the White House.
Biden’s health has remained a major public issue since his presidency. He and members of his former administration faced criticism over claims that they did not fully share details about his health.
The issue became even more important as Biden sought another term. His age was already a concern for many voters. Biden was 81 when he ended his 2024 campaign.
Since leaving office, Biden has continued to make public appearances. He has also spoken on major national issues.
Hunter’s comments now highlight a much more serious health challenge.
When prostate cancer spreads to the bones, it can cause pain and other health problems. The spread of cancer from its original site to another part of the body is called metastasis.
The Biden family has not released a new full medical report following Hunter’s comments.
For now, Hunter’s interview is the latest public information about the former president’s condition.
Biden continues to receive care as he faces advanced cancer. His family remains closely involved in his treatment and daily life.
Hunter’s emotional account has also shown the personal side of Biden’s illness. The family is now focused on his care, comfort and well being as he deals with the disease.
